Cynthia - It's pretty much a spicy orange lard that you can get at a Mexican place called la victoria which has a couple locations in SJ. I'm not familiar with the guidelines of Paleo, but judging by the massive amounts of orange sauce I consume and my greek god-like physique I'd say if a diet doesn't let you eat orange sauce it's a terrible diet. Sal - you are dead to me.

I've been thinking about getting some weight lifting shoes, but I've noticed nobody at our box really wears them. Is there a reason?
I noticed they are a little pricey, so before I spend the money I'd like to get some of your opinions...
I found this video clip that shows the difference in lifting shoes vs. running shoes.

Stacey: Jason recommended I consider getting lifting shoes about a month ago. The are pricey and I haven't gotten them bcs I can't afford them right now. He highly recommended Rogue. He said he might even be able to get a discount, so you could check with him if you can wait. Maybe if we ordered them together, we could also get a better price? I also noticed not many at our gym have them either.. not yet?

Grace & Stacy - I wear my weightlifting shoes all the time!! I don't have Rogue though (but I know people who have them love them), mine are the red & black ones, Nike I think?? I've had them nearly 3 years.. Until you get a pair, go barefoot/in socks ;)
On days when the WOD combines running and lifting, I use my Puma H-Streets, which are NOT cushy running shoes and are as close to barefoot as you can get, other than the Vibram Five Fingers. They have the right kind of sole, which doesn't squish when you lift (which is why lifting in running shoes is not recommended),
Jake, I'm going looking for that sauce if it can give me a Greek-Goddesslike physique. Hey, "Cynthia" is Greek anyway (another name for Diana apparently), AND both my daughters have Greek goddesses for middle names (Athena and Demetra).

First off I am not expert, but from what I've read (link pasted below), weightlifting shoes are only really needed for the two Olympic lifts (Snatch and Clean). The raised heel is so for added stability when you are in the deep squat position after catching the bar. The other benefit of weight lifting shoes is the flat soles and that video Stacy posted shows why that's important. Many other shoes have flat soles though such as basketball (which I use) or skateboarding shoes.

Hey Guys!
Oly lifting shoes are beneficial but not 100% necessary by any means. I received my Rogue lifting shoes for free after I won the 2008 Games, had I not won and got them for free I may not have ever bought them. For deadlifts and other power lifts, your socks will work fine. I see value in an Oly shoe for only the snatch and clean. They allow me to stay in my heals better and give me just a tad more stability. Using a shoe with a huge spring takes some of your power away, check out Nike Free's, these are some badass shoes!! I wear them for pretty much every type of workout. If you are going to invest in a new pair of shoes, buy ones that have little if any cushion, are extremely light, and can support your foot. These will be good for almost every workout we do, the Oly lifting shoes would only be good for those days. Grace or Stacey, I can call Rogue when I get home and see if I can get you a deal if you decide to buy Oly shoes. Just my thoughts from Greece.
Hope everyone is doing well, see you on the 8th, La Vic sauce is great!
